Rare Privilege features Maria Terres (Milwaukee, WI) on fiddle and Amy McFarland (South Beloit, IL) on piano. Their music has often been described as “way more sound than we ever thought two instruments could make.” The mastery of their individual instruments, a sense of innovation, and a deep love and respect for the living tradition of folk music and dance, combine to give them an imaginative and lyrical energy and drive. They have played for New England style contradancing, Irish social dancing, English Country Dancing, and many other traditional dance styles. Based in Wisconsin & Illinois, they have performed throughout the US and also in Canada.

Amy & Maria have been a mainstay for the Door County Folk Festival / Door County Contra Dance Weekend, playing for Festival Contra and Square workshops and parties since 2004.

As Rare Privilege they have played for the Squirrel Moon Festival, IndepenDance, Houston’s Bayou Bedlam, Minnesota Country Dance Weekend, and Iowa Contra Dance and Iowa ECD weekends. They have also played at the New England Folk Festival (NEFFA), CDSS Camp Cavell Dance Week, plus the Folklore Village Festival of Midwinter Traditions. This fall they will be playing at Fleur de Lis Fling in Louisville, KY.
