The Back Story (short version)
Bringing a Portable Dance Floor to MUSE Sturgeon Bay
After learning that Kress Pavilion would be unavailable for DCFF 2025, I reached out to Kaira Rouer (Executive Director, MUSE Sturgeon Bay), and we agreed that MUSE would be an ideal location for DCFF.
However, the Festival would need to rent a portable dance floor to cover the main hall’s concrete base in order to ensure a great dance experience.
When I looked into renting portable dance floors, I found that a 3-day rental from an event management company would cost over $7,000.
Purchasing such a floor outright, however, would be much more cost-effective in the long run—at a total cost of $10,000—and MUSE could use it for many other types of events in the future.
In accepting the incredible challenge of raising funds to acquire a portable dance floor for MUSE, Paul Collins (DCFF director) and Janelle Peotter (Sturgeon Bay native, musician, dancer and DCFF supporter) reached out to select members of their networks within the International Folk Dance community and the Sturgeon Bay patron-of-the-arts community to raise over $10,000 and reached the target goal in less than two months!
MUSE was able to purchase a SnapLock Portable Dance Floor in May and it will be delivered in June.
